This Wednesday, September 4th, the Toronto Port Authority is holding their annual general meeting for 2013 at 9:30 am at the Harbourfront Centre, 235 Queens Quay West in the Brigantine Room. This is your opportunity to address the Toronto Port Authority directly regarding your concerns about the airport, tunnel construction, noise, or traffic in our community. Residents are encouraged to RSVP online for the event if you plan on attending.
Also happening this week, the City of Toronto will be holding the first of three community consultations on allowing commercial jet-engine planes to use the island airport:
- This first meeting will be a “workshop” format, this Wednesday, September 4th, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm in the Blue Barracks Room at Historic Fort York, 250 Fort York Blvd. (Please note: This is not in the modern Canadian Forces Fort York building on Fleet Street, but the historic Fort York site.)
- The second of these “workshop” format consultations will be Monday, September 9th, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Metro Hall, 55 John St., in Rooms 308-309.
- Finally, there will be a “town hall” event on Thursday, September 12, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Direct Energy Centre at Exhibition Place in Salon 205.
These meetings are very important, as they will shape the recommendations city staff make to Toronto City Council on allowing jet-engine planes to use the island airport. It is critically important that you attend and make your concerns heard.
Please be sure that you also fill out this online survey from the City of Toronto regarding allowing jets at the island airport, in addtion to attending these events.
Your input, at these events and online, will help shape the recommendations city staff make to council before they vote on this important decision that will shape the future of our community.
