Joan Prowse, Chair of the Bathurst Quay Neighbourhood Association (BQNA), has sent a letter directly to Mayor Ford’s office, expressing the BQNA’s opposition to plans to build a casino at Exhibition Place – within walking distance from many BQNA residents – or at any of the other proposed downtown sites. She writes:
Already citizens are concerned for the safety of their children due to the increased taxi and passenger traffic [from the Island airport]. The proposal that a casino may be placed at the nearby Exhibition grounds strikes fear in our hearts, when Queen’s Quay and Lakeshore roads cannot cope with the current traffic chaos […]
We cannot endorse the placement of a casino near a community that is already overburdened by traffic and the health and safety concerns posed by it.
The letter is addressed to Mayor Ford, with a copy sent to local councillor Adam Vaughan.
